More Control over Mobile Posting: Excerpts and Picasa Support

New excerpt field added to the post editor.

The latest update to WordPress for Android includes some small yet very handy new features:

  • Post Excerpt: Just below the content area in the post editor you’ll now see a post excerpt field. Use it to add a post summary to your post. (Note: Your theme will need to support post excerpts in order for this feature to work).
  • Picasa and Google+ Image Support: You can now add Picasa/Google+ images from the Android Gallery to posts or pages. Just tap the camera icon in the formatting toolbar then select an image to add it to the post. You’ll need to be online so that the image can be downloaded. You can also select multiple images in the gallery and share them to the app for quicker posting!

We’ve also fixed up a few bugs in this release that improve the reliability of the app.

What’s next?

We are very close to having a beta release of the new Media Library management and Theme Selection features! Make sure to follow if you are interested in trying the beta.

A big thanks to all of the contributors that made this release happen: aagam94, mrroundhill, daniloercoli and mbias!

  1. I keep getting an error when trying to update from the Play Store. “Insufficient storage available.” Any clue what’s going on? I’ve never seen this with any app before.

  2. I constantly get 503 error, and cant upload images. I get messige like this: “Sorry, an error occured while uploading the Post. 503 was returned. Service Temporarily Unavailable”.

I checked with hostign provider but everythign is ok from their side.

    Do you have any idea?

  3. Whenever I try to upload images to my site, the upload defaults to 500px wide. I’ve looked around and can’t seem to find any option for increasing this size limit. So I have a few quick questions:

Is this size limit set by the app?

If so, can I increase it?

If not, can you tell me where in the WP settings I can adjust it?

Thanks in advance for your help, and for creating such a handy tool!

  4. Yes, you can set it in the blog’s settings. Tap menu key->Settings then select your blog at the top and you’ll see the image size settings in there.
