WordPress for PlayBook Update

An update to WordPress for PlayBook is now available on the BlackBerry App World. We’re pleased to introduce version 2.1, which adds some totally radical stuff!

What’s new:

  • Comment editing: tap the new ‘Edit’ button when viewing a comment and you will be taken to a new screen where you can edit the comment information including the name, email, URL, comment text, and status.
  • Post Autosave: to better protect your content, the app will now autosave posts you are editing every 60 seconds.
  • New Scaled Image Setting: you can now set the width of linked images. Tap ‘Settings’ and then tap the ‘Upload and link to scaled image’ checkbox.

Minor changes:

  • Small improvements to the UI, most notably the delete post button has been moved to a less prominent spot to prevent accidental taps.
  • Reliability improvements.
  • Updated translations.
  • New app icon.

  • New WordPress.com Reader: There’s an all-new reader in the app that makes it easier than ever to follow your favorite blogs on WordPress.com. We’ve added a bunch of great new features including simplified navigation between posts and the ability to comment on articles you like.

If you need support for one of the WordPress apps, visit our support page.

  1. Reader is broken. Clicking the Read button goes to the sites login page and fails.
Selecting a topic otherwise unexpectedly closes the app.

  2. @Gareth – That’s odd. Which version of the Operating System are you running on your PB? I’ve just tested the reader on the latest version of the OS and it works fine. If you are still experiencing this issue, please open a thread on the support forums.

  3. The app has installed a tool bar, a sort of launcher in which all new apps I install get stck. Then the Playbook starts acting oddly. If I delete the WordPress app and all apps in its toolbar, all goes well.

It is sad as I have 50 blogs to manage with WP and it’s a hassle to do with the Playbook app that’s acting weird. Not convenient at all.

Please tell me how to get rid of that app tool bar. Thank you.

  4. @waskaquebec – The toolbar you’ve seen was installed by the PlayBook OS 2.0. It’s the Android Runtime for BlackBerry PlayBook. When you click on the icon of an Android/Java app the PlayBook will run it through the Android runtime.

  5. I’ve seen some other poeple having the stats login issue. I have a wordpress.com site and saw you have to get a plugin. I’ve looked for this plugin but only find one for the self hosted wordpress. Just wondering if someone can give me a hand, I would appreciate greatly.
Besides the stat issue I’m finding the new layout very attractive and modern

  6. @angelinblood – You don’t need the WordPress Stats plugin in if your blog is hosted on WordPress.com

  7. Hi – the current update (2.1.2) is better than the last one: no more XML errors and log-in failures … but for me the program worked best back around 1.6 or so …

Previous iterations of the app allowed me access to all 3 of the blogs that I manage. However, now for some reason I can’t seem to get into two of the 3 – though they are accessible on my laptop and iPhone.

Is there a specific instruction for configuring the current update so that I can log in to all 3?
