Version 2.6.1 is Now Available

We are very pleased to announce that WordPress for iOS Version 2.6.1 is now available in the App Store. This release addresses issues many of our users reported with Version 2.6.

Like always, we owe a great deal of thanks and credit to the WordPress community for providing us with such amazing feedback. Your comments, forum posts, and tickets helped us address the issues as quickly as possible. Without your help, this update would likely have been delayed another week as we worked to track down and reproduce the issues.

While there are a ton of new features and enhancements in this version, the one we’re most excited about is Video. Because upload limits can vary greatly from host to host and blog to blog, we wanted to make sure to give you our recommended settings for users who would like to use this new feature. If you’re running WordPress 2.9.2 or later please be sure to add the following lines to your root .htaccess file:

php_value memory_limit 128M
php_value upload_max_filesize 128M
php_value post_max_size 128M
php_value max_execution_time 120

You may need to adjust these numbers depending on the size of the video you’re trying to upload. If you need help, be sure to check out the WordPress for iOS Forums.

Again, we’re grateful for all of the feedback we’ve received from our users, and we intend to expand our Beta Team even further in the future to ensure we get an appropriate range of device and blog combinations moving forward. We hope that our continued efforts to expand testing before each new release will result in more bug-free updates in the future.

Thank you for using WordPress for iOS!

  1. Hey Chris, thanks for the update.
Still having issues with Video. Video appears in the library screen, but doesn’t actually upload to server (even though the upload bar completes). It also doesn’t embed/add html to the post edit screen.

I can’t change my .htaccess on my server, so would this mean Video is not possible for me?

  2. Hi Chris,
thanks for the update, but the problem with the wordpress upload and using the Lightbox plugin still dosen’t work..also the resize from Normal to Small/Medium/etc…it’s kind of tricky…

I’ve tried to upload a photo and altough it adds the Class tag it still dosen’t use the prefs of lightbox and the href is not added…This used to work in the version previous to the 2.6.0 :S

  3. Also, once you enter a custom XML RPC endpoint, that line goes away in the Settings and you can never reach it again. It is at this point that I can’t get rid of the keyboard, even if I exit the Settings.

  4. Hi there, thank you for your hard work.

But honestly, the app crashes all the time on the ipad. I even reinstalled the app. Same problem.

Looking forward to a more stable and reliable version.

  5. Hello,
Thank you for the update! I am excited about the video! It still doesn’t work on my iPhone 4 though. It adds it to the library but it doesn’t imbed it into the post when I select it. It seems like this challenge is in the iPhone softare and not on the server end since it doesn’t embed the code.
Thank you again for this great app!

  6. Sorry you’re still having trouble with this release. I’ll take a look at this and get it resolved for 2.6.2. Would you be interested in joining the Beta Team so you can verify that the fix works with your blog?

  7. If it doesn’t add HTML to the post, it means the upload didn’t complete successfully. Where do you host your blog?

  8. Sorry you’re running into issues on the iPad. Could you try turning Autosaves off and see if that helps? You can do that by going to the Settings app, choosing WordPress, and turning the Autosave Enabled switch to off.

  9. Hi. Count me as another getting the “NSURLErrorDomain” error when trying to use the “Add Site” form. If you need any debugging info, I host my own WP site at work and can test things for you. Running iOS 4.1.

Thanks for all the hard work!

  10. Bummer. I just got the “NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 5” when trying to delete a post from my iPhone4, iOS 4.1. This is after deleting the app, rebooting, reinstalling, and adding my self-hosted site back. Any ideas? I’d be happy to help beta test this thing.

  11. Uh, feel free to remove my last post. Sorry…Not sure what I did, there. You’re welcome to remove this one, as well. 🙂

  12. I’m using an iPhone 4, iOs 4.1. The crash was occurring consistently when I started a post, added a title, and then tried to add a photo. I was able to select a photo from the library, but when I tapped “Choose,” it crashed. Now it’s working some of the time. Thanks for looking into it.

  13. Is the ability to upload portrait photos gone? When I try to upload, it asks me to move and scale the photo and only allows landscape orientation.

The way it’s set, I’d have to crop my portrait photos considerably.

If this is the case, I’ll have to revert back to version 2.6.

  14. I’m having the same problem. I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1. It happens when I get to the size & scale screen after I tap the “Choose” button.

  15. I have a dream that one day this app will be where I post all of my articles, complete with properly-sized photos, videos that upload, and other wickedness. Thanks for keeping at it. I really appreciate it.

  16. Deleted old version 2.6 and made 2 fresh installs of 2.6.1
    Got a 3GS upgraded to 4.1
    Self hosted wp-blog.

Communication error. Bad user name and password.

Totally stuck and can’t get passed this obstacle.

  17. Hello,

Inserting images to posts on iPad version doesn’t work. Also it shows a tiny picture when I click to enlarge. Whenever I try to insert a photo into a post it tells be I have a bad username and password. However it is logged in just fine because I can edit and post new posts (just not with video)

Also could you plead add formatting options for blog posts? So many people use bold headings and such. For now the wordpress app is just a super quick on the go app but could never replace the online version in the least. I’m not talking about the advanced features but just simple things like text formatting, adding links to images etc.

  18. Tried to re-install, but still doesn’t work. Loads “Comments” and “Pages” but not “Posts”. Claims “internal server error”.

  19. I had a self hosted wp blog and I configure it on the ipad app, no problem until 2.6 and 26.1 before couldn’t log in and now it alway says
    Nsxml pare error 5

By the way the app works pretty well in iPod touch, why the diference

  20. First I say thanks for the great work! Now I need to whinge- I have lost a lot of drafts and time trying the new release and now I am unable to upload photos as per other’s errors.. It has all become quite frustrating and there are no other options as I can see it. I am more than happy to beta test and offer detailed feedback on the new release but while doing it, could I have the old version back; sometimes less, is more. I miss the ability to actually publish a post with images as they were taken.

  21. Hi, I’m interested in becoming a beta tester as one of my blogs requires HTTP auth and is also SSL secured, which I know had some problems before.

  22. I need help. To post a comment on this blog it appears I’m logged in with my normal WordPress user id. When I try to post in the forums, I get a message that I need to log in and if I try to log in with my normal WordPress user ID I get an error!

I tried to register a new user id and now get “Registration blocked. Please stop.”!

I need help getting into the forum to solve a WordPress iOS problem!

Can someone please post a solution here for me – or email at theilliniguy at gmail dot com? Please and thanks.
