WordPress Version 2.5 for iOS

We’re very happy to announce that WordPress for iOS, Version 2.5 is now available in the App Store. As you might have guessed, we’ve been working hard for the past two months to respond to your feedback and address several issues that were most problematic for our users. This update resolves many of the outstanding issues and quirks that you have mentioned on the forums, Twitter, and elsewhere.

And while this release focuses mainly on bugs and performance enhancements, it also includes some updates to help iPhone users take advantage of two very nice additions from Apple: iOS 4 and iPhone 4. If you’ve updated to the just-released iOS 4, you’ll notice that 2.5 includes support for fast app switching, which is perfect for blogging on the go. Whenever you happen to unbox your shiny new iPhone 4 and install WordPress 2.5, you’ll be happy to see that it’s optimized for the new Retina Display.

Here’s an overview of what’s included in this version:

  • Cut-and-paste now behaves as expected on the iPad. [#438]
  • Better handling of drafts in progress when quitting the app.  [#450]
  • Several performance enhancements, UI improvements, and bug fixes.
  • Support for fast app switching in iOS 4.
  • Optimized interface for the Retina Display in iPhone 4.

You can download WordPress for iOS 2.5 right now in the App Store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wordpress/id335703880?mt=8

And when you’ve taken it for a spin, let us know what you think by leaving us some feedback on the App Store and/or the forum: http://iphone.forums.wordpress.org/

We hope you find that this update makes using WordPress from your iOS device even more enjoyable and easy than it was before.  And rest assured, as soon as we submitted this release to Apple, we started working on some killer new features for 2.6.

So stay tuned!

    • @Nicholas — ya, for some reason it seems a bit more confusing then when it was just “WordPress for iPhone version 2.4″.

But the headline is that a new version of the app is out, 2.5, and it supports many of the new features in iOS 4

  1. I’m sooo looking forward to 2.6!!! Video uploading, stats, formatting, etc. (just to name a few items on my wish list).

If the WordPress iOS app doesn’t meet or beat their Blackberry and Android brethren, I will seriously enter a phone geek depression (as us iFanboys have to deal with the Android freaks!!).

  3. Glad to see this new version, but I’m still seeing the very same error that’s afflicted your app for a long time now.

When I launch the app and select a blog to open, I get the following message:

    Communication Error

    The operation couldn’t be completed.
    (NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 9.)

Clicking OK dismisses the message, and things seem to work properly thereafter.

Until I select a different blog and I go through all this again.

One of your programmers wrong to me months ago, saying he’d isolated the problem, but nothing happened and subsequent versions of your app still display the very same issues.

Does anyone else encounter this error?

    Peace,
    Gene Steinberg

  4. I just updated my iPod Touch 2nd gen to OS 4 and I did jailbreak it. I love the multitasking features and background changing features of the home screen.

The new 2.5 wordpress application for my iPod Touch is great. I love being able to blog just about anything when I’m away from my house, and especially when I do not have WIFI. I wish other apps were this easy to use. I can’t wait for the 2.6 release!
    :)
