Version 1.2.1 Released

Version 1.2.1 has been released to Android Market.  It is a minor update, yet adds some features that the user community has been looking forward to.  Changes include:

Delete Posts and Pages

You can now delete posts and pages directly from the app.  Simply select a post or page, and select ‘Delete’.  After confirming, the post or page will be moved to the trash.

Add a Post Signature

A small snippet of text can be added to the bottom of each new post you make with WordPress for Android.  We’ve defaulted it to ‘Posted from WordPress for Android’, but you can change it to whatever you’d like.  Note to theme designers, we added an id to the post signature so you can style it to your liking.

Better Embedding & Linking

Video uploads to blogs that don’t user VideoPress will now be embedded to the post when submitted from the app.  We’ve also made links that are shared with the app from other apps hyperlinks so that they are clickable by your readers when you post the link to your blog.

Bug Fixes

This release also includes the following bug fixes:

  • Media file upload fix for HTC Sense devices like the HTC Incredible
  • Optimizations for the Geotagging feature.

  1. Oh, can you please change the id to a class with the next update? It will break the validation as soon as two posts from the client will be on one page.

  2. Thanks for the update. I just tried it out. I found two issues

    Issue 1:
After uploading 3 short videos, only two are visible on my wordpress site, and my droid reported a Success, but then the following:

Post ID# 586 added successfully, but an error was encountered when uploading media: org.xmlpull.v1.XmlPullParserException: expected: START_TAG{null}methodResponse(position:START_TAG(empty)@1:6 in java.io.InputStreamReader@447cdc58)

    Issue #2:
The two videos that did get uploaded to my site are embedded –cool — but the size of the embedded background is much larger than the size of the video. See this capture: http://screencast.com/t/YWZiOGVlZ.

  3. I am not able to post media using WordPress for Android as my webhost only supports media uploads through FTP user authentication. Will this needed feature be added soon (I do believe it is included in all the other publishing tools)?

  4. i have a selfhosted blog and i am still unable to upload media from the gallery, sd card or from the camera. i reinstalled the app and notthing changed. if there is something the user must do in other to make it work please let me know, i’ve being searching but i didnt find anything so far. except that for htc sense devices last update fixed that.. but not for me.. i am using htc desire.

    • Dan,

Perhaps he needs to set up FTP as I do but cannot through the application? Please see my comment above and please reply.

    • im really sorry, turns out the problem was with permissions in my server. Since many people where having similar issues, at first i thougt it was wp4android, but i was completely wrong. then again, sorry. :S

The problem was that the ownership of the parent directory is not automatically set to www-data apache user, when using the public_html directory from within the users home. i should have known this but im a newbie.. sorry for bothering you.

I dont really know where to post this for help other people. perhaps there can be a possible way to fix this by creating a tool at the install asking for the user and pass and doing a chown in the parent directory. im using ubuntu server, perhaps its not common in other distros.

with the new wp3 and mu.. perhaps there is no need for all this.. anyway, Dan your link gave me the pointers to find it out, ty

  5. Hi dan,
Firstly massive thanks for making this app. Just what i was looking for and very much appreciated.

Am having an issue on htc desire in uploading images, and links. It seems the html is getting screwed up for some reason. The first time i clicked on add media, took a photo, and it showed at the bottom by the media link, but not visibly in the post. Nevertheless, I ticked publish, clicked save, and then when viewing the blog on the laptop i noticed it had come out as just html text, and it had missed of the from the start and end of both the img and the html word link. I added the ‘s in, and the image showed fine, but the link didnt.

The 2nd time i tried just writing a word and adding an image, and same thing again, but this time the ‘s were missed off, but the html turned the image into a clickable link.

Not sure if its just a bug, or im missing something, so any ideas let us know.

All the best for its development

  6. Hi, I am very grateful for WordPress and the Android Application for WordPress.
Also I am a great supporter of open source software. :-)

Now I’m writing here, because I have searched several hours for a bug or issue tracker. I was on your trac but was not able to post anything.

The Problem I have found is the following:

If you edit an existing article in your WP3.0 Blog using the Android-App, the Text will be truncate off at any German Umlaut. Thats bad. :-|
The second issue is, that for example double strokes will converted to question marks.

Please tell me where I can report the issues.

    Thank you very much! :-)
